INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
IKV’s internship programme applications are continuing. Because of the large amount of applications, interviews will be held only with the most successful applicants.
Overview:
IKV offers unpaid internship opportunities for undergraduate or postgraduate students interested in Turkey-EU relations. IKV internship programme is intended to increase the awareness and knowledge of young people on Turkey-EU relations and to give them the opportunity to consolidate what they have learned in class by working in a professional environment with IKV researchers.
Job Description:
Interns are performing their internship at IKV’s Central Office in Istanbul. Interns are required to:
- Play a full part in assisting IKV researchers in their research on Turkey-EU relations and Turkey’s alignment with EU acquis;
- Conduct in-depth research on Turkey-EU relations and Turkey’s EU accession process;
- Assist IKV in the organisation of international conferences and panels;
- Assist in the update of IKV website;
- Follow national and international press and contribute in the preparation of IKV weekly e-newsletter that covers developments in Turkey-EU relations, EU policies and EU institutions and Member States;
- Write a research paper on Turkey’s accession to EU, EU institutions, EU policies, and recent issues on EU agenda to successfully complete IKV internship programme.
Each intern is obliged to write a brief note with respect to Turkey’s EU accession process, EU institutions, policies and the latest developments in EU affairs. Brief notes that are deemed successful will be published on IKV’s website.
How to Apply?
To apply to IKV’s internship programme, please send the following documents to staj@ikv.org.tr with “First name_last name_period of Internship(dd/mm/yy-dd/mm/yy)” in the subject line:
- A copy of your CV in the Europass format written in Turkish or English (please click here for more information on the Europass format);
- A short cover letter explaining the motivation for applying to IKV internship programme and indicating their preferred dates for the internship;
- A writing sample on Turkey-EU relations, European integration, EU politics or Global politics (in English);
- Student certificate.
Requirements:
Candidates are expected to:
- Demonstrate a special interest in Turkey-EU relations, European integration and EU politics (priority will be given to candidates who have work/internship experience in these domains);
- Complete at least third year of their undergraduate degree (priority will be given to candidates studying in European Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics or Business Administration)
- Have advanced reading and writing skills in English (knowledge of other languages is an asset)
- Have strong computer skills (especially MS Office).
Admission Process:
The applications are assessed depending on the availability of the internship positions at IKV. Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for an interview. If the applicants are successful during the interview, they will be offered a place in the IKV internship programme. Given the high volume of applications, early applications are encouraged. For summer internships, we recommend applicants to submit their applications at least 6 months in advance.
Working Conditions:
- IKV working hours are 9.00-12.30 and 13.30-18.00 during weekdays.
- Interns will be based in IKV Istanbul office. IKV internship programme does not cover living or travel expenses.
- Interns are admitted to IKV internship programme on a full-time basis. A limited number of part-time internships are available depending on the number of applications in fall-winter period. Part-time interns are required to work 2.5 working days a week.
- Minimum period for full-time internship is 1 month.
