According to the decision taken on the 17 December 2004, the EU heads of State and Government officially opened the accession negotiations between Turkey and the EU on the 3 October 2005. This process will bring important changes in Turkey’s economic, political and social structures through the transposition of the acquis communautaire into Turkish legislation and the compliance with the standards and regulations of the EU.
